Fantastic Insect Pendant with Opal

Fantastic Insect Pendant with Opal
While playing around with my little stockpile of fantastic stones I can never resist buying at the gem show, I designed this little winged guy and had to go carve him immediately. He kind of reminds me of a creature newly emerged from the chrysalis, wide-eyed at the world around, getting ready to take wing and fly away.
(Note the surprise on the backside that hits you right in the pareidolia!)

This ring is hand carved in wax by me in my Portland studio using pointy tools, and then cast using the lost-wax method. I do all finishing work, stone setting, pearl mounting, etc. Each piece is a highly detailed work of art with great attention to detail at every angle.
